The club was founded in 1971. A football team existed in Manorcunningham prior to this, participating in summer cups and playing friendlies. When the Donegal Junior League was set up in 1971 a number of local people from the area decided that a team should be entered. At a well attended meeting in the Gaiety Hall the club was set up. At the meeting Packie O'Donnell was selected as the team manager. The team entered the league the following year.

We played our first match on 5th March 1972 ,a 4-4 draw with Finn Harps. Our first success was in the 1972/73 season when under manager John O'Donnell, assisted by Richie Kelly, we lifted the IAWS cup when we defeated Letterkenny Rovers 1-0, in Swilly Park. Stevie Wilkinson was the scorer. Our cup winning team was: Brendan Mc Ginty,  Patsy Doherty,  Stevie Wilkinson,  Martin Doherty, Dessie Gibson,  Joe Doherty,  Brian Quigley, Tommy Taylor, Aidan O'Donnell.  Sub: Sean Moloney.

In 1982 a succesful "Lord Mayor" campaign to raise funds for development was started. This enabled the club to purchase the pitch at Orchard Park from the Mc Fadden family. These facilities enabled us to compete in the new premier division in 1991.

In 1991 under manager Joey O'Donnell we reached the Sportsman's Cup final where we drew 1-1 with Ardara in Ballyare. Derek Kelly was the scorer. However we lost the replay 1-0. Our next success came in 1994/1995 when our reserves won the Colm Dillon Second Division in the Saturday league. Dessie Kelly was the manager. We had been fielding a Saturday team for a number of years but had to withdraw when number's dropped. We won a few area finals in the Sportsman's Cup before our most successful period under manager Jason Gibson. In 2006/07 we won the Milford Inn Division One title. Chris Toner was our top scorer with 22, in all competitions, beating the previous record of 19 by Stanley Dill. In 2007/08 we won the Brian Mc Cormick Sportsman's Cup beating Gweedore Celtic on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Jason Burke was the scorer. We reached the Ulster Junior cup final as well but lost to Clonmany Shamrocks. We again won the Milford Inn First Division title in 2009/10 with Mark Hunter the divisions top scorer. During this spell we had some good runs in the FAI Junior Cup with away wins v New Oak Boys(Carlow) and Freebooters (Kilkenny) as well as at home to NUIG. We had a mixed few years before Keith Hegarty took over as manager. We again won the Milford Inn Division one title in 2015/16. The following year we finished hhird in the Premier Division.  Our highest ever position in the Sunday league.  When Keith left we sldo lost a lot of  players. The men's team was in serious danger of collapsing but the young players coming through from the Schoolboys provided enough numbers to survive. We fielded a Saturday team as well for a season but dropped down to the Second Division in thd Sunday league. Vinny Mc Laughlin and John Rodgers took over as managers and helped stabilise the team.
